We recently had the opportunity to take part in Unity Radio’s ‘Presenting Under Pressure’ corporate workshop. As part of this fun teambuilding day, we got to present our very own radio show, live on air for a whole hour!
With a 20-year history and 30,000 weekly listeners, Unity Radio broadcasts dance and urban music from Media City, on 92.8FM, DAB and online.

GETTING TO GRIPS WITH THE STUDIO
The workshop started with a crash course in radio. Our amazing instructor James taught us all about the history of Unity Radio. We also found out more about different radio presenting styles and how to plan a radio show. James then took us into the studio to give us an overview of the production side. He showed us Unity Radio’s software system Myriad and how to choose and queues different playlists and music with it. He also showed us how to insert jingles and how to fade the microphones in and out.
PLANNING OUR SHOW
Next, we started planning our own hour-long show. James suggested Tempt as our topic for the show, which was fine by us as we know all about that! He said we should create four five-minute features on different topics to do with Tempt, which would be presented by two of us at a time. Holly paired up with Tempt’s own James, whilst Beccy and Fakhrun teamed up. We picked the following topics for our features:
- Social media trends for 2023
- An interview with Tempt’s Founder Beccy
- How to use social media to promote yourself
- All about Tempt
In our pairs, we scripted the features and timed them. Each feature had its own intro and outro. We then needed to each write a very small presenter link between songs. After this, we were ready to pick our music and go live!
At this point, we could see why the workshop is called ‘Presenting Under Pressure’! With so much to think about, not to mention the fact we were going out live, we were feeling the pressure! Our shared sense of nerves brought us closer as a team, as we encouraged each other throughout.
Once we picked our songs, we then presented our show, with Unity Radio’s James helping with the technical side of things. Once we got past the nerves, the hour really did fly by, and we had an amazing time!
OUR OVERALL THOUGHTS
We are so happy to have been able to experience this exciting corporate workshop. It was so much different from your standard teambuilding day, being the perfect mixture of challenging and fun! Presenting a radio show was certainly a little out of our comfort zones, but we truly had a fantastic experience!
We’re really excited to be working with Unity Radio to promote their corporate workshops and New Talent Academy.
