If there’s one place where culture, content and clever marketing collide in one big glittery desert haze, it’s Coachella. What originally started as a music festival has evolved into a huge, global phenomenon and arguably one of the biggest content weekends in the calendar. No longer just about the music, this iconic festival is a masterclass in experiential marketing, digital influence, and brand building.

Some pretty big brands have stolen the show this year, from Barbie to GAP, but you don’t need a billion-dollar budget to harness the magic of Coachella. You might be a Manchester restaurant or hotel, a million miles from California, but you can still learn a lot from this festival from all the way across the pond.

Here are four lessons from Coachella Valley that you can apply to your brand today:

Exclusivity creates demand

There’s a reason why FOMO is so powerful in today’s social first landscape, and Coachella thrives on the art of ‘you had to be there’. After all, don’t pretend you haven’t been just a teeny bit jealous when you’ve seen Coachella on your feed recently. When you create exclusive experiences, from private parties to invite-only events, you aren’t just selling a product but a status symbol. GAP played on this idea by creating an immersive pop up, selling exclusive Coachella merchandise. Exclusivity isn’t about shutting people out, though, it’s about making access feel earned. The more selective the experience, the more desirable and memorable it becomes. Brands can harness this buzz generator with VIP events, for instance a pre-launch event for influencers and local businesses, in the case of a new hotel opening.

Influencers = ads

We already know people trust people more than brands, with 69% of consumers trusting influencer recommendations*. When an influencer or celebrity is seen to interact with a brand, it becomes instantly desirable, but Coachella works so well because brands invest in the right voices to tell their story in a way that feels authentic. Think beyond reach – think relevance. Invest in the right influencers who align well with your brand and can create a community rather than just solely focus on impressions alone.

Aesthetic = strategy

From desert billboards to branded installations, everything in Indio is designed to be captured and shared on socials. From the ferris wheel to the neon installations, Coachella is basically built for Instagram. In 2026, you can enhance your strategy by ensuring your business is consistently showing up on-brand, with instantly recognisable, highly shareable content.

Viral moments aren’t accidental

Nothing at Coachella is accidental. That ‘spontaneous’ moment blowing up your feed is actually most likely the result of a carefully designed strategy, backed by the knowledge of exactly what makes people hit share. Whether it’s an unexpected brand collab or an immersive pop-up, focus on experiences people actually want to capture and share.

So, there you have it. You don’t have to wear glitter and cowboy boots to win at marketing (although we certainly won’t stop you, if that’s your style), you just need to understand how to make your audience feel like they’re part of something unique, exclusive and culturally relevant. The desert dust will eventually settle and those flower crowns will get tucked away in a drawer for another year, but the brands that truly win at Coachella are the ones that people will remember long after the music ends.
